We had our faculty meeting this morning and one of our teachers shared this….
She took a different route home this one particular day and passed a man walking on the side of the highway about 2 miles out of town. He had a backpack on so she though he might be traveling by foot into Lovington. She thought maybe $40 would help him on his way. The HS led her to circle around and pull over to the side of the road where he was walking. He dodged to the left then the right as if she was trying to hit him. LOL. Once she got her window rolled down and saw him, she thought maybe $20 would do….. She asked him if he could use $20 to get something to eat once he got to town. He shook his head and thanked her but told her he was just walking home from work. Okay….. Now she felt real silly! He told her God Bless You! and she went on her merry way! Almost home, she realized she didn’t even offer to take him home. Hello….
Several days later, she was visiting with her son in the parking lot of our McDonald’s and looks up and there is the same man, waving at her. He came over and told her how much her stopping and offering the $ had meant to him and that he had told his wife all about it. He shared that he wanted to be just like her and be helpful to people and giving to others. This made her feel better but she still did not have the money given away.
Three days later, she was getting a few groceries and just about ready to check out, when she remembered she needed some mouthwash. She hurried off to the toiletry aisle and….. there he was again. This time he had his wife and child with him. He was so excited to introduce her to his family. She decided to tell him about our 10 for Him group and asked him if he knew of anyone in need. He paused and then shared with her that he had just lost his job the day before and now he actually could use it. He shared that he was a recovering drug addict and did not want her to give him the cash, but his wife was handling all their finances and she would do what was right with it. She then gave him all of it ($100) and knew that God was faithful to lead her to where he wanted to be and give it to whom He wanted her to give it to. Whoop!
