Some of our Ten for HIm members contributed money to help victims of Sandy…
Here is the letter received from a local woman who took the money that was contributed back to her home town.
” I just wanted to let you know that we made our trip and we are back home in our warm house. What we saw was just devastating one home was worse than the other. People living in conditions I could not imagine. Their houses on the front lawn everything from the day they started. People freezing with no heat or hot water, nothing is working and food is given to them because their cars were ruined in the storm from the water. Some not able to live in their homes, others living in homes they shouldn’t be that were literally turned upside down. One man share that when he returned every item in his house was upside down, his refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, he said he didn’t know what happened but it looked like a war zone. Every house has been demolished on the inside and the remains on the front lawn waiting for pickup. 50 homes that had signs on them do not enter and these houses can never be entered again. I want to thank you so much for the clothing donations and gift cards. I can’t even begin to tell you the expressions and tears we saw from residents. My kids had a wonderful experience and realized how grateful we are for the little things. One little boy said all his legos were ruined and another girl shared how her dolls drowned, it was just so sad. We spent 4 days walking the streets and delivering hot meals door to door given to us by camp bulldog the site that is helping families in need. I could not take a ton of pictures as people were putting their houses back together and didn’t want to be the tourist. I can just tell you we saw houses ripped apart, one house totally blown into the ocean and not there anymore. I just wanted to say thank you for your support, prayers and encouragement it means so much to me and my family.”
The world gets a little smaller as we all reach out.
